About Thea Rossi Barron
|Thea Rossi Barron is a resident of Fairfax County, Virginia who, when not practicing law, is painting. She began as a teenager working in oils, pastels and charcoal. In the early seventies, she started working primarily in watercolors. She prefers to work en plein air, adding finishing touches in her studio. Her subject matter is most often urban landscapes, pastoral landscapes and seascapes. For the last several years, Ms. Barron has traveled to the Tuscany and Umbria regions of Italy to paint.
She has studied under Michigan watercolorist Victoria Littna, Virginia naturalist William Martz and Maine watercolorist Carol Sebold. For the last twenty years she has been exhibiting her works in both juried and non-juried shows in the Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia areas. In 1997, she had a one-woman show in Arlington. Her works hang in private residences and offices in the Washington metropolitan area, and are in private collections in California, North Carolina and Michigan.
Painting has always been my passion. During my early adult years, I was juggling the practice of law with raising my three children, leaving little time for painting or drawing. In the seventies, I moved into watercolors and found that I could capture my impressions quickly. I always traveled with a sketchbook and paints at hand.
After my children left the nest, I was able to set aside several weeks each year to travel exclusively to paint. The color and antiquity of the Italian hill country, the land of my ancestors, has inspired me deeply. I have always enjoyed contour drawing and eventually, I settled on mixing ink contours with watercolors to render the small village scenes.
In the last twenty years, exhibiting and selling my paintings has brought me great joy. I believe that what talent God gives us, He expects us to share it with others.
