Nearly 35 years ago, I first heard the expression "...with diligence and attention". It was spoken by a then ancient high school English teacher as a warning. It simply meant there was going to be a test on the material assigned, as soon as tomorrow. As my academic life progressed, the warning was seldom used by anyone, in any form. I guess everyone assumed you were old enough to understand that you knew when to apply the phrase.
During the day to day pressures of business, we sometimes overlook the simple fact that everything we do, everything we say, everything we contemplate, must be done with diligence and attention. Does that mean that we have to live in a constant state of paranoia? Of course not. It simply means that we should pay careful attention to all of the details and how they fit into the total plan. You are the keeper of the organization's image. You are therefore ultimately and personally responsible for the quality of your organization's product or service.
If you have made the massive mistake of delegating the responsibility for your organization's actions, you will find that when the mistakes are made, you can fire those responsible, but you will still have to correct the problem. That puts you at risk, and that isn't where you want to be.
Conclusion:
Pay attention to the details!
