Robert Johnson is currently owner of the Courtyard Gallery in Tubac, Arizona. Starting his career as a painter and photographer, he served fourteen years as educational curator of the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri. As a member of the Museum staff, he was instrumental in co-founding the national exhibition Watercolor USA, now the most prestigious annual competition in America.
Robert Johnson's watercolors have garnered him many national awards, including 75 one-man exhibitions of his work. He is listed in Who's Who in American Art, and Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Other honors include membership in the Watercolor USA Honor Society and Charter member in the Florida Watercolor Society.
In addition to the Springfield Art Museum, Robert Johnson also taught at Stetson University, Southwest Missouri State University and Evangel College.
During the seventies, he taught watercolor workshops in the mid-west, and was on lecture and workshop tours for the Mid-America Arts Alliance covering a four state area in the eighties.
Robert Johnson's work has been published in four issues of the Ford Times magazine, and his watercolors have been included in "America Watercolor", a seventy five painting exhibition of American Masterpieces at the Museum of Tapei, China. He was invited to exhibit in the 1986 Watercolor USA "The Monumental Image", and was shown at the 1988 exhibition and competition of aviation art at Oskosh, Wisconsin.
