G. Marlo Allen was born in Front Royal, Virginia and raised on a farm in rural Browntown where she developed a love for God's creation early in life. This love is reflected in her unique lifelike drawings and paintings of animals and farmlife.
With encouragement from her late grandfather, William Johnson, and later from her husband and business partner, Todd, she has perfected her individual style of lifelike pen and ink drawings using the old-time crowquill pen and india ink. Each drawing is done freehand and involves the intricate placement of thousands of individually hand-drawn fine lines.
The artist works from both her husband's and her own photographs of animals and people and utilizes her own innate "feel" for the subject matter and a vivid memory for details which makes her artwork come alive with form and color. In addition to pen and ink drawings the artist also works with bold colors in acrylic and pen and ink.
For the past 24 years, the Allens have traveled extensively over much of the United States participating in the nation's top-rated, juried arts and crafts festivals. The Allen family spends 3-4 months each winter at their Florida residence doing juried art festivals throughout the state.
