South Carolina has a proud tradition of higher education. Charleston College, founded in 1770, is among the 13 oldest U.S. colleges. Among its founders are three signers of the Declaration of Independence and three fathers of the U.S. Constitution. These ties to the past are visible in Erica Hoyt's watercolor prints of the historic structures of South Carolina colleges.
